New Lens

by on Oct.28, 2010, under 7D, Beaches, Outdoors!, Photography, Sydney

I’ve always had high quality lens at the wide end of the scale but never spent money on a good zoom.
So I finally stepped up and bought a proper Canon 2.8 zoom…with the OZ$/US$ exchange rate it was an absolute steal – almost half the price even after import compared to the same model a friend bought 3 years ago…
So I took it down to the beach for a quick test run after work…first impressions are that its bloody heavy but with the right settings it is clearly an exceptionally good piece of glass…

Just as I got down to the water a pod of dolphins came flying past…they were going at an amazing pace and I only got time to fire off one quick burst from a distance as they raced round the Bower…

This guy was hanging out on the cliffs soaking up the last of the suns warmth…

I think he was hoping to get some action but the Mrs was more interested in hugging a branch…

Surf lifesavers practicing…

The seagulls around here are pretty hectic if you are eating…

Go Pro converted to 1000fps

by on Oct.28, 2010, under Film Making, Surf

After talking to a few people about this Twixtor plugin which enables footage to be synthesized from 60fps to 1000fps (ref last post) I got sent the link for this by a friend of a friend…

Its far from perfect slow mo but considering its converted from footage shot on a tiny Go Pro it is pretty damn good!

7D 1000fps

by on Oct.27, 2010, under 7D Movies

7D 1000 fps from Oton Bačar on Vimeo.

This is not my footage. I saw it on Vimeo last week but didnt believe it at first.
However, it seems that it is possible to produce footage at 1000fps from a 7D, although its originally filmed at 60fps not 1000fps, and a plug in is used to generate the missing 940 fps.

It is far from perfect (for eg the wheel spokes should be visible at slower speeds, and the sky is very blown out) but it is certainly interesting to see what is possible, and its a LOT cheaper than a Phantom that some companies use…

The footage is well filmed anyway too.

Property Portfolio update…

by on Oct.24, 2010, under Architecture, Photography, Sydney, Urban, Work!

Real Estate has been really dominating my shooting again recently…its been the busiest spring market they have ever had here.

Whatever I may think about the industry I work in and where its heading (!) McGrath, who is the largest client I work for, are still ruling the market and taking on some epic properties…

So I finally got round to updating my portfolio with some of the properties I’ve shot this year in Sydney…you can check it here
