They are normally really lacking in natural light and very narrow.

The intense textures, layering and detail all appeal to me but what I find fascinating is that all the pieces of artwork tell a historical story of events but in a very visual way like a map, and these events happened long before white man blundered in to the Aussie interior. Only in the last 10 years has anyone in the Western Art world really begun to recognise it as a genre of art that deserves respect in its own right.

The NGV at Federation Square in Melbourne now has the biggest display of Western Desert Art in the world.
