The price of gold
by LSP on Nov.08, 2009, under Economy

After flirting with it on friday, the price of gold seemed keen on a run above a record $1100 this morning.
Some people still think that is cheap, given the continuing terrible economic policies of the governments of various countries…

Reuters – The chief executive of Goldman Sachs, which has attracted widespread media attention over the size of its staff bonuses, believes banks serve a social purpose and are doing “God’s work.”
The rest of his nonsense is here.
He earned $54 million last year…

The Age of Stupidity

“A weak currency arises from a weak economy which in turn is the result of a weak Government.” Gordon Brown, during the Pounds devaluation after it was withdrawn from the ERM (before he made it to power by default)
“There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as a result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved.”, Ludwig Von Mises

Gold/USDollar
by LSP on Sep.06, 2009, under Economy

As I have stated before I try not to post about the economy, but those that know me know I am a gold investment believer. Well, september is the traditional time of year for Gold to do well and already the price has rocketed to just under $1000, a level it has stumbled on before.
Combined with the multitude of problems in the USEconomy, many believe it will charge through this barrier soon. Others will have you believe that everything is fine in the world economy and a recovery is just around the corner (i.e that it is fine to stick with fiat currencies backed by nothing but hot air rather than real money like Gold.)
I just dont buy in to that, when none of the problems that caused the “crisis” this time last year have actually been resolved, but with the levels of misinformation (like those pointed out in the article below) riding at an all time high at the moment, who really knows?
Only time will tell…

PROPAGANDA VS REALITY
Just today, typical rubbish commentary came from the New York Stock Exchange floor. As preface, note that over 75% of all NYSE trading volume is traced to Wall Street program trading. Their handy high speed, high frequency trading, also known as insider trading that taps into stock trade orders before they hit the exchange, now dominates the majority of trading activity. If that does not qualify as brokerage pit masturbation, what does??? The commentary went like this to explain the gold price runup, which is still early and still not significant yet in its jump. The charlatans on the NYSE explain the gold price moves up as technically based (therefore not real), as owing to the weak USDollar (not true in the last couple weeks at all), as a safe haven (intriguing if an epiphany is in progress), and as the result of light volume leading to high volatility (the ultimate in lame excuses). The Wall Street gang has really lost a lot of credibility. Why anyone even listens to them is a good question. When they run out of advertisement revenue to spend, we will be forced to listen to them less. Then they will use USGovt budgets to fund their statements in advertisements on financial networks. Ooops! They already do, from the USDept Treasury, when they were given control in 1992, and have commandeered it ever since.

Growth pt2

Growing Silver beet – first attempt…
I was thinking about the post I put up growth, and the effects of Peak Oil and overpopulation on food production and distribution, and came across this:
How far does an average piece of food travel before it goes in your mouth?
Apparently between 1,500 and 2,500 miles (2,500 and 4,000 kilometers) from farm to table. A new study by the Worldwatch Institute details the lengthy journeys that much of the nation’s food supply now takes, finding a growing separation between the sources and destinations of American food.
The distance that food travels has grown by as much as 25 percent, according to the report by the Worldwatch Institute, an environmental and social policy research institute based in Washington DC. The nation’s reliance on a complex network of food shipments leaves the United States vulnerable to supply disruptions, the group argues.

“The world is not a static thing, we all know it grows and contracts as the flow of life meanders.
The media hologram shows countries in recession or achieving positive growth, depending on how the data has been massaged. Consumer confidence is often closely related to the particular position of any given state. As a result all governments claim their economies will return to positive growth in the “near” future. None would dare state that in fact the economies of the world have over extended themselves and the debt fueled growth of past decades will never been seen again, despite the likelihood of this as a stark reality of our future due to debt, Peak Oil and over population.”
This September/October is setting up to be a very interesting period for the worlds economy.
Meanwhile, we should take faith from the fact that in the real world growth of some kind or other can always exist, even in the most improbable places…
Economic growth can either be positive or negative. Negative growth can also be referred to by saying that the economy is shrinking. Negative growth is associated with economic recession and economic depression.
Five major critical arguments raised against economic growth include:
The State of things
by LSP on Jul.19, 2009, under Economy, Environment, Mankind, Peak oil

Since starting this blog I have consciously tried to avoid posting anything to do with the political/economic quagmire that the world seems to be in. There are enough people with far bigger brains than mine who are writing about these issues, and there is enough freely available information out there that I felt I would muddy, and not add to, the message.
However, after listening to some people recently, it’s clear that many, many people are simply not aware (or do not care) that many aspects of this world are just unsustainable, or what a pitiful world we are leaving to our kids. Perhaps we really do need to start trying every day to make everyone around us more aware.
For example, it is painfully clear that Civilization cannot go on gobbling up all the worlds natural resources without any ramifications.
It also seems obvious that the world (U.S in particular) cannot continue to maintain such ridiculous debt levels without repercussions.

Meanwhile, the gap between the Elite (supported by an illegitimate president) and the rest of the world grows bigger daily.
Are we ready for forced vaccination (of a vaccine that has not been sufficiently tested) against a disease that was deliberately spread?

What would you do if all banks closed down for an emergency bank holiday, and the supermarkets shelves ran dry? Is this what it will take before people actually sit up and take notice? Perhaps we should prepare for this possibility?
Things are coming to a head, of that I have no doubt, despite Big Medias continued efforts to brainwash us. Before the end of this year there will be rapid economic and health related developments, and they wont be pretty.
What should we all do about it? Many solutions have and will be presented. Most are as useful as digging a big hole in the ground and sticking your head in it…
My angry question is why is man so destructive? But the more relevant question right now is how bad will things be allowed to become before a new “solution” is rammed down our throats by the NWO advocates?

A Weird World?
by LSP on Aug.19, 2008, under Economy, Outdoors!, Photography, Snow, Travel
I havent posted anything in a while so felt like sharing a few thoughts and links that have crossed my path recently……
Since I went on holiday the markets seem to have turned on their heads, especially Oil, Gold and the US$, and more than a few have been stung by it.
Some people think the recent military action is the beginnning of the end while, as often, there seems to be more and more going on than meets the eye….
Last night I listened to a couple of students near me in a pub discussing whether it was justifiable to kill 6 Billion in order for 1 Billion to have adequate resources to live on…is it? Is that even a legitimate discussion?!
Meanwhile people just keep on spending stupid money on houses, including this one just along the coast from where I was on holiday… or this extra ordinary converted church I photographed recently, on the market for an unlikely £3m…
Or this Behemoth, on for £10m…
So in the wider world, are certain groups really still intent on provoking war?
Its easy to let it all just overwhelm, so I’ve been going here and dreaming of simple pleasures and next winters snow….
However, its clear that the months between now and when I actually get out of both this creaking industry and this stinky cynical city are going to be one hell of a ride…..
