Gold Coast trip

I went up to the Gold Coast for work and the family tagged along at the weekend for a little change of scenery…
We were in Coolangatta and then drove down to Byron Bay. Byron was a cool looking place but absolutely rammed with people on a busy weekend so we ended up at a place called Brunswick Heads – a beautiful little town with a setup that’s pretty close to the ideal that I always had in my mind for bringing up a family.
About as close as I wanted to get to Surfers Paradise

Storm Surf

Monster storm rolled through Manly today…100kph plus wind, rain and big swell.
Stopped by the beach at lunchtime but it was horizontally raining so only fired a few shots from the dry warmth of the car.
Caught a 10 second rainbow but otherwise awful visibility so the shots are pretty grainy…
Respect to the guys who went in today…

No legs to go back in the water so headed up on the cliffs…

The winter swell has rolled in the last few days.
There were some solid 5ft sets today – not massive but certainly the biggest I have gone out in with the camera.
Still hating the lack of manual control over many of the settings on my u/w camera housing but learned a lot about shooting in such powerful water today.
1 hold down and a couple of near decapitations by surf boards but overall an epic morning in the water.
Supposed to be 5-7ft tomorrow…

Big Swell

First really decent swell of 2011 hit Sydney over the last few days.
As the wind finally went off shore, I went out the last couple of evenings with a hand board for some exercise and it was bigger than I have been in for a long while…
An experienced surfer mate of mine might have even confessed that he had the fear a little at one point while out trying to ride something…
As the rest of us suckers went to work, Uge got the goods as usual…
