Quad flying (and crashing) at Palm Beach

by on Nov.14, 2011, under Quadcopter, Sydney, Underwater

Some low res screen grabs from the recovered gopro in the lead up to the crash…

Somewhere like this with obvious cross winds was for sure one of the least intelligent places I have launched the quad, but I couldnt resist – look at the scenery…!

Jervis Bay

by on Apr.24, 2011, under Australia, Beaches, Oceans, Outdoors!, Underwater, Walks

Definitely one of the most gorgeous places we have visited yet in Australia…Jervis Bay is a massive natural harbour 2 and 1/2 times the size of Sydney harbour. There are about 80 resident dolphin in the Marine Park and tons of other creatures in the surrounding National Park, as well as some great beaches and cute little towns.

Good to be able to get the big camera out for something other than work for the first time in a while….

Exhale…

Salt Motion

by on Apr.14, 2011, under Australia, Oceans, Photography, Sydney, Underwater

There is a photographer called Joel Coleman who has a gallery/cafe space near my flat in Manly called Salt Motion. Every morning he is down the beach looking for images.

This morning while the rest of us were getting some exercise in the water and going to work, he was chasing dolphins round the bay…

Check out his site here…he just got back from a trip to the Solomon Islands – some really inspiring shots here

Brisbane floods

by on Jan.18, 2011, under Australia, Disaster!, Environment, Rivers..., Underwater, Urban

While we have been away, Brisbane and various other parts of Australia have suffered massive flooding.
Apparently 90% of the country’s wheat crop has been destroyed as well as countless thousands of people homes and livelihoods.

Check out some more incredible before and after photos here

Seal Rocks Birthday mission

by on Sep.19, 2010, under Beaches, Oceans, Outdoors!, Roadtripping..., Surf, Underwater

On friday I drove 340kms west to the Blue Mountains and back for work…then at 10pm (after Flo finished work) we set off to a friends house in Seal Rocks, 300kms north from Sydney. Other than spending far too much time in the car it was an epic weekend…Diving with an incredible variety of fish, turtles, dolphins, sharks, hearing whales singing under water, Andy chundering after surfacing from the first dive (a little scary), chilling on the beach with bubbles, plenty more booze, seeing Whales breaching repeatedly off the coast right in front of us, and some beautiful scenery. Big thanks Andy.

Every time we get out of Sydney I am more and more impressed with this country…hopefully many more road trips to come…

Off the Bower

by on Aug.28, 2010, under Oceans, Surf, Underwater

Went for a snorkel for the first time in a little while…it was damn cold and the u/w vis wasnt that good but loved being back in there…just need the water temp to pick up a bit cos after an hour my hands and feet were pretty numb…

There’s plenty of sealife around including a whale and calf a couple of kms off the Bower…lots of currents running so wasnt too keen on swimming that far offshore, so stayed near the point and found some wobbegongs (small carpet sharks with desert camo markings) to follow instead…
